ASSESS Assessment for Supervisors, Managers &
Professionals
History of ASSESS
In the 1970’s, ASSESS began as a mainframe computer expert system application designed to help new psychologists
evaluate a standard test battery and write profile-level assessment reports for business.
Over the years, this application was migrated to a Personal Computer environment with first a DOS and then a
Windows operating system. In 1998, an Internet application was introduced.
Over this same time period, the expert judgment and report writing components have been regularly revised and
improved. Since 1988, the report output has been directed toward a general business audience rather than
psychologists.
Modern ASSESS reports are written in a manner that allows them to either stand on their own without
the interpretation of a psychologist or to provide a detailed foundation for a summary report written by a
psychologist.
